Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)
Upper Curve:
Output current (I) of a solar panel depending on the output voltage (V). The Maximum Power Point (MPP) is the point Pmax on the curve where the product I × V reaches its peak.
Lower Curve:
Output power P = I × V as a function of output voltage. If a PWM (rather than MPPT) controller is used, the output voltage of the solar panel is nearly equal to the battery voltage and is below Vmp.

- 1a) If more PV current is connected, the controller limits the input power to the specified maximum.
- 1b) PV voltage must be at least Vbat + 5 V for the controller to start operation. After that, the minimum PV voltage is Vbat + 1 V.
Ultra-Fast Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT)
Especially under cloudy skies, when light intensity constantly changes, an extremely fast MPPT controller can increase energy yield by up to 30% compared to PWM charge controllers and up to 10% compared to slower MPPT controllers.
Advanced Maximum Power Point Detection under Partial Shading
Partial shading may create two or more MPP points on the current-voltage curve. Traditional MPPTs may lock onto a local MPP, which might not be the optimal one. The BlueSolar device’s innovative algorithm always maximizes energy yield by tracking the optimal MPP.
